IOB goes corporate

What started as something pure and beautiful has ended up with a ching ching sound.

Ok it didn't start too pure, it started on the google owned blogger, but it was unpaid and unedited.

A cricketer telling us his inner most thoughts.

Thoughts about the perfect jeans, and being called fagot.

We all rushed over there, turning this former hardly known Kiwi trundler into a blogging superstar.

Then fosports, stuff.co.nz, and other well known beacons of internet cricketing truth got their claws in.

First to go was the unedited part.

Kiwi's PR dude started doing a bit of extra reading each night.

But we still rushed over there, maybe not quite as excited, but we were there.

Now the there is no longer there, well it still is, but there is also this Iain O'Brien's cric info blog.

3 weeks.

That is all it took, from blogger to corporate writer.

While I am glad for Iain, this sort of thing may have guaranteed him a career well after his career is over, I am sad that something that started off as a journal into the inner workings of test cricket has become just another cric info blog.

I can only hope that cric info let him write it himself, and don't do a chris gayle or king kumar style of ghost blogging that makes the goblins tour diaries look like a good read.

So now if you want a hit of IOB over your weet bix, go to cric info, and read all about his latest jeans and sushi, but it wont be the same, at least not for me.
