Kolpak players explained

A new cricket term is been thrust upon us by the County Cricket regime.

English fans are well aware of it. But a lot of my non English readers may have heard the term Kolpak player in the media of recent times, and thought, I wonder what that means.

I will try and clear it up for you.

A Kolpak player is a player who is well built and cool under pressure.

They are cold, and lifeless, so a lot of them come from South Africa.

You have to ship them in from overseas, but you should do it, because they were voted best in class for 2007.

They are reliable, probably won’t break down, and you know they are good quality being that they are not made in the UK.

So a well built, cool under pressure, cold foreign cricketer is now known as a Kolpak player.

Try not to confuse it with the Mayan chicken dish Kol Pak.

Or the Slovenian handball player Maros Kolpak, whom the wisden cricketer keep mentioning.www.cricketwithballs.com "Now with extra juicy Podcast"
