General Cricket Talk : New Stats for Bowlers

Author: kirankriSubject: New Stats for BowlersPosted: 20 May 2011 at 11:25amYou can't judge a player just by his stats. Yes. But stats definetly gives us few details about performances.I was thinking of a new stats for bowlers. Currently they project the average and strike rate. One of the things ignored with this is the quality of the batsman they have dismissed. A wicket of Viv Richards by giving away 40 runs is much more worthy and requires more skill than getting 3 wickets of Holding, Garner and Roberts for 20.How about having another element of stats which sums up the batting average of all the batsmen dismissed by the bowler and dividing by the number of wickets. If you dismiss Richards twice, the parameter would be 50.23+50.23/2 = 50.23.If you have dismissed Holding and Garner, it would be 13.78+12.44/2 = 13.11.We know batsman's average itself may not reflect everything, but atleast it gives us a fair idea if he has got 80% victims as tail enders.Any thoughts?
